New Delhi: Tourists visiting the capital will soon have a new way to explore its iconic landmarks, comfortably and affordably. The Delhi government is set to launch an air-conditioned electric tourist bus service by August 15.

The buses, part of a full-day sightseeing tour, will cover major attractions like Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Kartavya Path, Prime Ministers’ Museum, National War Memorial, and Lotus Temple.

Each stop will last at least an hour, giving visitors enough time to explore at their own pace.

Comfortable Ride. Affordable Fare.

The fare is yet to be finalized. But officials say the tourist bus price will likely be ₹500 for adults and ₹300 for children between 6 and 12 years.

The service will begin with 3–4 AC commercial buses in its pilot phase. These 9-metre-long electric vehicles, hired from Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), will seat around 30 passengers each.

They come with more than just cool air. A guide will be present onboard. Plus, the buses will feature multilingual audio systems or headsets, making the service more accessible to tourists from non-Hindi-speaking regions like Tamil Nadu or West Bengal.

“These are commercial tourist buses, but they’ve been planned with the tourist’s comfort in mind,” said an official from the tourism department.

Fresh Wraps and Familiar Roads

The exteriors of the commercial vehicles will be redesigned with vibrant wraps to appeal to tourists. The government hopes the new look and feel will help shed the memory of the old Hop-on Hop-off (HoHo) service, which was discontinued during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Unlike the earlier model, this will be a single-route, full-day tour, simpler, more structured, and eco-friendly.

The buses are electric. The interiors will be air-conditioned. “This is a modern and sustainable way to explore Delhi,” the official added.

Conclusion: More Routes in the Pipeline

If the pilot run goes well, officials say more routes and stops could be added. The long-term plan is to create multiple circuits and expand Delhi’s presence on the tourist map.

The project has already received a green signal in a recent DTC board meeting. Now, the countdown begins.

For the first time since the pandemic, commercial buses in Delhi will once again offer a dedicated city sightseeing experience. This time, it’s cleaner, quieter, and better suited for a new generation of travellers.
