Amazon India is expanding its fast delivery service through Amazon Now by adding 1000 electric trucks as part of their logistics network. These trucks will be supplied by VE Commercial Vehicles and its subsidiary Eicher Trucks & Buses and will be used for deliveries between fulfillment centers and strategically located micro fulfillment centers in order to provide quick and efficient delivery to urban centres. The logistics network will primarily consist of short-haul trips with multiple deliveries each day via the same route.
The partnership started in 2022, and focused initially on developing custom-designed electric small trucks applied to last-mile delivery applications. With regard to the Eicher Pro X's intra-city transport ability, its movement of goods is restricted primarily to fulfilling orders at fulfillment hubs that exist at the extreme edges of most cities (due to strict timing requirements).
Provided that routes are relatively easy to navigate (and the travel path is a continuous path from point of origin to termination), the location of charging points would be established with the intent of minimizing turn-around time. Amazon India operates approximately 12,500 electric vehicles across approximately 500 cities utilising several OEM partnerships, and as of 2025, testing and deployment of future all-electric trucks used in logistics will move to the next phase.
The anticipated fleet of roughly 1,000 electric trucks will be phased in over time; around 50 are now in operation. Initial deployment will be focused on the following cities: Delhi-NCR; Bengaluru; and Mumbai. Each truck will have an expected daily run of between 100 and 180 km, and take approximately 50 minutes to charge, thereby enabling multiple deliveries during the same day as a truck operates.

Amazon India's operations team have stated that the growing demand for delivery has led to further integration of electric mobility into logistics systems. Transportation system designs now attempt to align efficiency targets with CO2 emissions along the supply chain, particularly for deliveries on urban routes where frequency is highest.
According to VE Commercial Vehicles, the Eicher Pro X is an outcome of the collaboration with Amazon, with vehicle design reflecting operational needs. The vehicle is designed for maximum reliability and scalability while enabling a gradual transition to electric freight for e-commerce logistics.
In addition to producing trucks, Amazon India is also committed to broader sustainability initiatives. The company has sourced over 1.1 GW of carbon-free energy through nearly 53 wind and solar farms in India and is making progress in its water replenishment efforts, reducing its use of packaging materials used in fulfilment.
These measures are intended to change how urban freight is transported, with the use of electric trucks becoming standard for rapid commerce (e.g., grocery delivery). This development is part of an overall transformation in the way goods are transferred from fulfilment centres to delivery locations, with cleaner transportation being gradually integrated into the logistics systems used on a daily basis.
The rollout of this initiative correlates with a continued demand for faster delivery by Amazon Now in major metropolitan areas. By 2028, Amazon plans to use more than 1,000 electric trucks; to date, they have deployed approximately 50. This will create a network of micro-fulfilment centres located in urban markets that are linked to customer demand points, allowing the rapid transfer of a variety of products (e.g., grocery items, electronic accessories, personal care items).
