Mahindra UDO, an Electric Three-Wheeler, has been officially launched in India, with an introductory price tag of Rs. 3.58-3.59 lakhs. This new model joins the highly evolving and dynamic space of last-mile mobility with a singular focus on range, comfort, and usability.
The UDO is designed and built by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd, and its design is the result of the adoption of a new design language, thereby giving it a distinguished look compared to other autorickshaws on the market. The design is inspired by aircraft design, thereby giving the autorickshaw a unique identity in the market.
In terms of its under-the-skin features, the UDO is powered by an 11.7 kWh IP67-rated Lithium-Ion battery pack, along with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, rated at 10 kW, or 13.4 bhp, combined with 52 Nm torque, which allows for an on-the-road driving range of around 200 km on a single charge, with an ARAI certification for up to 265 km. It is also capable of speeds up to around 55 km/h, according to its top-spec “Race” drive mode.
Performance control and usability are enhanced by a choice of three driving modes-Raise, Ride, and Race-which let operators prioritize efficiency, balance, or performance in relation to traffic and route conditions. Segment-first functional features such as regenerative braking, reverse throttle, hill hold assist, and a crawl function help provide smooth operation on both congested and open road conditions.
On the comfort and safety side, the UDO’s architecture is based on a full monocoque-type construction, which aims at offering better mechanical robustness and handling characteristics than those usually offered by a more conventional body-on-frame-type architecture. Inside, there is a thicker “pilot seat” designated for the driver, and extra leg and head room is also provided for passengers. The suspension system integrates a rear independent suspension and a double fork fork design.
The Mahindra ownership support package for the UDO is also beyond the basic warranty coverage. The e-auto comes with six years or 1.5 lakh km warranty-Whichever is earlier and free servicing up to 1 lakh km. It also enrolls it in the UDAY NXT scheme, offering Rs. 20 lakhs accidental insurance apart from financial counseling services.
All in all, the Mahindra UDO is being targeted as a feature-rich electric three-wheeler for last-mile commercial use, mixing respectable range figures and practical features with a competitive introductory price point.
