Ashok Leyland has launched two new Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV)- the Twin Fuel DOST and DOST+ XL- which have produced a practical and environmentally-friendly way of last-mile delivery. The launch took place on April 16, 2026, in New Delhi, as part of Ashok Leyland's broader effort to move toward sustainable mobility alternatives that create lower emissions.

The new versions with Twin Fuel technology are capable of running on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and petrol, allowing drivers to switch between fuels as necessary and not solely rely on CNG infrastructure for their refuelling needs. This addresses a significant issue that CNG users face in the fact that they have limited access to refilling stations on longer or less predictable routes.

Focus on Flexibility and Cost Efficiency

The twin fuel capability has a very good cost/ usability balance. CNG will provide the daily savings the operator will require and, when there is uncertainty over supply, the operator can simply switch to petrol as a way to continue their operations. This flexibility could prove very beneficial in semi-urban and rural settings where fuel availability can greatly differ.

By having two fuel options, the vehicle is designed to enable uninterrupted service. This is essential to businesses that have strict delivery deadlines as any delay in delivery is often seen as a loss of revenue.

Payload, Range and Capability

The DOST twin-fuel variant can carry a payload of 1,218 kg and can go over 400 kilometres on a full tank of fuel. It has one 120-litre CNG tank and one 5-litre petrol reserve tank.

The DOST+ XL improves on these capabilities with a total payload of 1,410 kg and a 148-litre CNG tank, which is also supported by a 5-litre petrol reserve. The total distance that can be covered with both fuel types combined is approximately 500 kilometres, allowing for extended travel with less interruption.

These characteristics make these vehicles perfect for small business owners, logistics companies and fleet operators who need their vehicles to have the maximum amount of time running on the road while travelling between locations.

Pricing and Market Relevance

The starting price for the DOST twin fueled variant is ₹8.20 lakh (ex-showroom), while the starting price for the DOST+ XL variant is ₹8.75 lacs. Both these price points allow users of both models (small and medium operators) to have access to these two models, which is the majority of users in the LCV market.

This launch represents a measured response to market demand. As cleaner fuel becomes more available to consumers, there are still many issues with infrastructure. By supplying customers with a dual-fueled option, Ashok Leyland is solving both issues without requiring an entire change in consumer behaviour.
