The electric vehicles market is seeing a gradual growth in terms of sales thanks to their performance and zero tailpipe emissions. Due to the rising demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in both the passenger and commercial vehicle segments, numerous manufacturers are now leaning towards the electrification of their fleet. Also, new automakers are stepping into the EV space to further enhance the business and provide convenient travel-oriented solutions. 

However, as you might know, numerous automakers are facing troubles and hiccups in their EV ventures, some shockingly in the form of fire that engulfs the vehicles to ashes. In this regard, netizens have been posting viral videos which show how EVs are turning into fireballs as a form of concern about their own electric vehicles.

So, the Government of India has stepped up and made an announcement regarding the safety of the electric vehicle market. It plans to introduce mandatory standards for primarily EV batteries, then components and their testing protocols in order to avoid such fire incidents to keep the riders and others around its vicinity safe. 

According to media sources, the new standards for testing and component construction will be notified within two to three months time period. The Government will be focusing on the mandate to be integrated into the rule books to ensure that electric vehicle manufacturers will only be able to sell their EVs with standard compliant batteries.

Further, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highway (MORTH) has stated that manufacturers that fail to comply with the mandatory standard and regulations will be made to pay heavy penalties.  However, this regulation will only be implemented as per the notified period mentioned earlier, in order to give automakers prior notice and help them make the changes required.

It has been also mentioned by the government that random samples of fully built battery packs will be collected from the manufacturing plants to test for compliance with the new standards. 

In conclusion, we must say that the intervention by the Indian Government will indeed be beneficial for the utmost safety of riders, vehicles and everything around its proximity.
