Vingroup-owned Vietnam-based Green and Smart Mobility-GSM-announced its entry into the India ride-hailing taxi market in February 2026. Its fleet will be of EV cars from VinFast, a wholly-owned Vingroup company. In an interview, VinFast Asia Chief Executive Officer Pham Sanh Chau also confirmed the launch of GSM operations next year using only VinFast vehicles.
India will be the fifth market for GSM, which currently operates in Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Laos. GSM is said to maintain complete ownership of the electric car and two-wheeler fleet, unlike traditional aggregators like Uber, Ola and Rapido. The company will offer both app-based services and conventional taxi operations.
VinFast entered the Indian market with the VF 6 and VF 7 electric vehicles in September 2025 and set up around 26 dealerships across the country. Integrating GSM as a captive fleet service would scale the volume of sales much faster for VinFast. Chau also underlined that the drivers will be trained as ambassadors who will promote the brand, just like in Jakarta, where 10,000 drivers carry its brand while driving.
India's urban mobility sector has seen strong growth on the back of ride-hailing aggregators and electric-vehicle platforms. Players like BluSmart introduced all-electric taxi services in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru. In a major setback, BluSmart recently shut shop after investigations by the Securities and Exchange Board of India found that the company's promoters allegedly diverted funds allocated towards the procurement of EVs into personal assets.
GSM's entry into the Indian market increased competition in India's electric mobility space. With integrated fleet ownership and a VinFast collaboration, this could impact service standards and the pace of EV adoption for urban mobility. Analysts remark that the integration of fleet control, driver engagement and electric vehicle deployment may be the differentiator for GSM in the wave of ride-hailing.
