Tata Motors in a new move has invested an additional ₹134 crore in the digital logistics platform Freight Tiger, taking its total investment in this company to ₹284 crore. Post funding, Tata Motors is estimated to hold a stake of 42-46% in the brand on a fully diluted basis, effectively strengthening its position in the logistics tech space.
Freight Tiger offers an online market platform where shippers, consignees and logistics service providers converge. This platform empowers a range of features: back-office operations, freight visibility and route planning to efficiently enable various business supply chains.
Management at Tata Motors has emphasized the increasingly prominent role AI is playing within the logistics sector. The management said the investment aims to support what it calls “AI-led freight transformation,” with the goal of enhancing operational efficiency, improving business intelligence, and reducing costs across the logistics value chain.
Girish Wagh, MD & CEO of Tata Motors, explained the strategic intent behind this investment in an official statement: "As an important stride to lead AI in freight transformation in the logistics ecosystem, we invested an additional ₹134 crore in Freight Tiger, taking our total investment to ₹284 crore.”
Industry analysts said the logistics sector in India is witnessing rapid digital transformation, especially in the use of AI and data-driven platforms. The Tata Motors investment reflects the larger trend of traditional automotive companies looking at modern tech and digital integration in freight and supply chain operations.
This fresh funding round also sets Tata Motors up for leveraging Freight Tiger platform to improve their logistics efficiency within its ecosystem of the commercial vehicles segment. The company had earlier stated that such investments are part of a larger strategy to strengthen its presence across the logistics and mobility industry.
