Tata Motors has started delivering 148 Starbus EVs to BMTC in Bengaluru. The move strengthens the city’s electric public transport and supports its clean mobility mission.
The new buses join 921 Tata electric buses already running across the city. Together, they reflect Bengaluru’s commitment to expand its sustainable transit network.
These EVs will be run and maintained by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary of Tata Motors. The company will manage the buses under a 12-year operations contract with BMTC.
At the delivery event, Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and BMTC MD Ramachandran R., IAS, flagged off the new fleet. Senior officials from both Tata Motors and the government were present.
BMTC’s MD confirmed that existing Tata buses have delivered strong performance and positive commuter feedback. He said this batch would help BMTC increase service in more areas of Bengaluru.
Anand S., VP of TML Smart City Mobility and Head of Tata’s Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business, stated that the current Tata fleet has already run over six crore kilometres. He said Tata will continue to support BMTC’s efforts for cleaner, better public transport.
Each Starbus EV is built for city operations. The bus offers a low-floor design, 35 seats, and safety systems like Electronic Stability Control and Electronic Brake Distribution. These features make the buses ideal for daily city commutes.
Because they are fully electric, the buses help cut tailpipe emissions. They support cleaner air and align with India’s push for green mobility.
Tata Motors, part of the $165 billion Tata Group, continues to invest in electric vehicle solutions. The company works closely with government bodies to power India’s EV transition and scale urban e-mobility.
With this delivery, Tata Motors reinforces its leadership in the electric commercial vehicle space and helps Bengaluru move closer to a greener transport future.
