Hollywood movie Avatar created a massive buzz the world over when the first installment was released back in 2009. The fantasy world of Pandora caught the imagination of people of all age groups with mythical flora and fauna on an imaginary planet garnering attention. But what also grabbed attention were the heavy construction and logistical vehicles that were deployed to assist in the storytelling. Obviously part of CGI or computer-generated imagery, these mammoth machines were an elaborate exercise in giving a glimpse into what the future of the actual world may welcome in the times to come.

So what were these heavy vehicles and what were they depicted doing in Avatar movie?

Hell Trucks

Hell Trucks were the most-commonly seen vehicles used by the colonizing forces on Pandora, the planet where humans sought to extract precious resources. Essentially a dump truck, the absolutely mammoth trucks were tasked with ferrying unobtanium from the mines on the fantasy planet. The sheer size of each Hell Truck was such that a single tyre under the machine was at least twice the height of a human.

Haul Trucks

Smaller in size than the Hell Trucks, the Haul Trucks were nonetheless some of the most imposing vehicles in the first installment of the blockbuster movie. These trucks were shown transporting a wide variety of goods from point to point on Pandora.

Robodozers

Imagine a bulldozer in the real world and enlarge it by at least ten times – that’s the Robodozer from Avatar. A fully-automated machine, the Robodozer was tasked with clearing large areas of forested land on Pandora. According to fan pages of the movie, each unit measured around 40 meters in length and stood 13 meters tall.

Excavator

Although not getting too much screentime in Avatar, the Excavator was still shown as a massive assist in the daily operations of the occupation forces on Pandora. It was depicted to be capable of both clearing the top soil as well as for heavy loading, Excavator did not have any armaments and required troop cover when operating in hostile territory.
