Tata Motors today expanded its intermediate commercial vehicle (ICV) portfolio with the launch of the Tata Azura 1212, a new cargo truck positioned for regional haulage and logistics applications. The launch took place as part of the company’s wider commercial vehicle showcase, where Tata Motors confirmed that all newly introduced trucks meet ECE R29.03 European cabin safety norms.
The Azura 1212 has been developed with a focus on payload efficiency, driver comfort and safety, targeting operators in distribution, e-commerce, FMCG and general cargo movement.
A key highlight of the Tata Azura 1212 is its ECE R29.03-certified cabin, a European safety standard that validates structural integrity during front impact, roof strength and rear wall strength tests. The compliance ensures enhanced protection for occupants and reinforces Tata Motors growing emphasis on cabin safety across its commercial vehicle range.
The truck features a D+2 seating layout, with a cabin designed for day-long operations and improved ergonomics.
Powering the Tata Azura 1212 is the 4SPCR diesel engine, producing 123 hp at 2,800 rpm and 360 Nm of torque between 1,400 and 2,200 rpm. The torque band has been tuned for steady performance under load, making it suitable for stop-start urban use as well as intercity routes.
The engine is paired with a GB550 MK II gearbox, while power transmission is supported by a 310 mm diameter clutch, designed to handle frequent load cycles. Braking duties are managed by air brakes, offering consistent stopping performance across varying payload conditions.
The Azura 1212 is built on a 200 × 60 × 5 mm frame, providing a balance between strength and weight optimization. It offers multiple load body options ranging from 17 ft to 24 ft, allowing operators to configure the truck based on application requirements.
With a GVW of 11,990 kg and a payload capacity of 7,300 kg, the truck sits squarely in the ICV segment. Suspension setup includes parabolic suspension with double-acting hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers at the front and semi-elliptical leaf springs at the rear, aimed at maintaining ride stability under varying loads.
The Tata Azura 1212 comes equipped with tilt and telescopic power steering, supporting improved driver comfort and adaptability across different driving conditions. Tyre specification stands at 8.25 R 20, suited for mixed urban and highway operations.
Tata Motors is offering the Azura 1212 with a standard warranty of 3 years or 300,000 km, underlining its focus on long-term ownership confidence and lower lifecycle costs.
With the launch of the Azura 1212, Tata Motors has added a safety-focused and payload-efficient option to its ICV lineup. The combination of an ECE R29.03-certified cabin, flexible load body options, and a competitive payload rating positions the truck for operators seeking a balance of safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. Further details regarding pricing and variant availability are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
