The Tata 610 LPK is a 6-ton tipper vehicle with urban transportation work and short-distance site operations in mind. It has a lightweight chassis with a payload-carrying platform, designed for application in industries such as construction, municipal waste, and light support excavations. Although it is not designed to venture deep into off-road or long-distance terrain, it fits neatly into high-turnover city logistics.

Engine and Transmission

In the heart of the 610 LPK is a 2,956 cc four-cylinder BS6 diesel engine from Tata's 4SPCR platform. It develops 100 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 300 Nm, available from 1,200 to 2,200 rpm. These numbers, though modest on paper, facilitate the truck's low-speed torque requirement in tipper operation in stop-and-start conditions.

The engine mates with a G550 manual transmission, having five forward gears and one reverse. The clutch is a single dry-plate, 280 mm unit. The gearing in the transmission is oriented more to load movement than high-speed cruising, which is in line with the purpose of the vehicle.

Chassis and Build

The chassis layout is of the ladder-type, with added cross members and members of 200 mm x 60 mm x 5 mm length. The frame structure contributes torsional stiffness, essential in a tipper that has to withstand uneven loading as well as moving mass. Suspension is mechanical. Semi-elliptical leaf springs operate in conjunction with double-acting shock absorbers at the front. At the back, extra leaf springs are used to manage payload distribution more evenly. The configuration prioritizes load resistance and durability at the expense of ride comfort, a compromise common in the category.

Dimensions and Payload

The 610 LPK is available in cabin chassis and full-built tipper variants. Both have the same wheelbase of 3,405 mm. Gross length varies between 5,000 mm and 5,360 mm depending on the body. Width varies between 2,140 mm and 2,340 mm, and height remains the same at 2,380 mm. Ground clearance remains a constant 209 mm, providing enough clearance for potholes, ramps, and low-grade construction.

The Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) rating is 6,250 kg. Payload is about 3 tons. Tipper body, in the full-built configuration, has a volumetric capacity of about 3 cubic meters. These ratings position it in the light commercial tipper segment, typically utilized in short-cycle bulk material transport.

Brakes, Tyres, and Handling

Braking is managed through a vacuum-aided hydraulic system with H2LS (Hydraulic Two Leading Shoe) technology. The parking brake employs a transmission-mounted drum mechanism. This configuration is aimed at maximizing reliability in mixed terrain and frequent stopping applications.

Tyres are 7.50 x 16 with 16PR (ply rating), reinforcing load-carrying capacity. The setup is two tyres front and four tyres rear, plus one spare, providing stability when fully laden. The power-assisted steering lightens the turning effort, particularly useful in tight alleys or dense building sites.

Cabin and Features

The cabin is constructed from high-tensile steel. It accommodates a driver and single co-passenger. Controls are mechanical and minimalistic, in keeping with the truck's utilitarian purpose. The interior has analog gauges and a digital display for DEF status, fuel, and air pressure. Other options are a Blaupunkt sound system, USB charger, and a gear-shift advisor—providing necessary utility and not luxury.

Driver ergonomics are minimal but adequate. The seat is cloth-covered with standard cushioning. Driver entry and exit are convenient because of the cabin and door angle, which is appropriate for fleet operators with high shift frequencies.

Maintenance and Serviceability

The 610 LPK comes with a service cycle of 20,000 km. The critical drivetrain components, wheel hubs, and axle ends need attention every 120,000 km. Tata offers a base warranty of 3 years or 300,000 km, whichever is earlier, on the driveline. These cycles position it well for businesses that want to reduce downtime and make logistics simpler.

Usage Profile

This tipper suits low-volume but high-frequency operations. It excels in doing repeated short-distance jobs with partial or full load. The platform is sturdy enough to transport loose material such as gravel, sand, bricks, and trash. Nevertheless, the absence of sophisticated safety features, cramped cabin accommodation, and modest road speed imply it is best confined within city limits or controlled construction areas.

Our Opinion

The Tata 610 LPK comes across as a workmanlike, utility-oriented truck designed for particular work. It lacks upscale features and highway worthiness but is highly competent in its role as a reliable tool for its intended use. It's most attractive to contractors and operators who cherish simplicity, mechanical durability, and regular service cycles.
