Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, has confirmed a ₹100 crore order from Celcius Logistics for the supply of 350 electric commercial trucks. The deal marks one of the largest single orders for electric cargo trucks in India’s commercial vehicle market, underlining a growing shift towards clean logistics operations.
Celcius Logistics, a cold-chain focused transport firm based in Mumbai, will integrate the electric trucks into its fleet for operations across major metropolitan regions. The vehicles are expected to be deployed primarily in temperature-controlled logistics segments, serving sectors such as pharmaceuticals, dairy, food distribution, and e-commerce. Sources familiar with the development noted that deliveries would begin in a phased manner over the next 12 months.
The order includes a range of light electric commercial vehicles manufactured by Switch Mobility, designed for Indian road conditions and optimized for short to medium-haul cargo operations. The company stated that these EVs have been engineered to meet the specific needs of intra-city logistics, where emissions, operating cost, and vehicle uptime are critical.
Celcius has cited sustainability targets and fuel cost optimization as key factors behind the transition to an electric fleet. Company officials noted that the partnership would allow it to significantly reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining high service reliability in dense urban environments. With logistics emissions under increased regulatory scrutiny, the move aligns with Celcius’s broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.
This development also reflects a larger trend across the Indian logistics sector, where fleet operators are showing rising interest in EV adoption driven by operational savings and policy incentives. The central government’s FAME II scheme, aimed at accelerating the deployment of electric vehicles in commercial use cases, has contributed to a gradual uptick in procurement across urban delivery networks. Industry analysts believe that large-scale orders such as this could catalyze supporting infrastructure investments, including battery charging and swapping stations.
Switch Mobility, which has already supplied electric buses across several Indian states, is expanding its presence in the cargo vehicle segment through strategic partnerships and state-level collaborations. The company views the logistics sector as a critical frontier for decarbonisation and aims to scale up production capacity in line with projected demand for commercial EVs.
As the market for electric trucks in India continues to mature, the Switch-Celcius agreement may signal a turning point in how logistics firms approach fleet renewal strategies. With diesel prices fluctuating and pressure mounting to cut emissions, electric commercial vehicles are steadily moving from pilot projects to core operations in the Indian transport landscape.
