Are you a truck driver? If so, you will be glad to find this article- here are the top 5 tips and tricks for truck drivers to have a safe journey during the summer season. 

The summer season is a fun time for most of us, however, it's not so fun for driving a truck due to the scorching heat that takes a toll on the truck’s performance and the driver as well. If you are a truck driver and you will be spending the summer season hauling heavy cargo, here are some of the top 5 tips and tricks to have a safe journey. 

  1. Drink Water:

First and foremost, if you are starting the day just drinking coffee, make sure to drink plenty of water for proper hydration. Heatstroke brought about by excessive exposure to the sun is harmful therefore, try to drink as much as water possible during intervals to stay away from heat illness. 

  1. Check Tyre Pressure:

While you may be drinking enough water to stay healthy during your summer trips, make sure that the truck tyres are having the right tyre pressure and is inflated to the optimum level. We say this because higher temperatures can be the cause of tyre blowouts, hence, it is important to inflate the tyres up to the right tyre pressure defined by OEM. 

  1. Check engine coolant levels:

As the name suggests, the engine coolants keep the engine cool irrespective of the driving conditions, however, if the coolant level in the system is low, it can cause the engine to malfunction and fail. During summer, it should be of utmost importance to check the engine coolant level to maintain the right engine temperature for optimum performance. If in case it is low, try to fill it up to the OEM described levels. 

  1. Wear sunscreen and perhaps a hat:

Like your truck’s paint is protected, you too need something to protect your skin from the heat and sun rays, especially during the summer season. So, it is advised that you cover yourself completely with long sleeve clothing and perhaps even a pair of sunglass and a hat to keep your body cool.

  1. Check engine belts and hoses.

Make sure to do an inspection of the mechanical components like the truck’s engine belts and hoses. Due to the extreme engine heat as well as the heat caused by the season, the engine belts are prone to get damaged. The belts expand and contract over a period of time causing them to lose their tightness. This can cause the engine to not run properly which will affect your trip. Therefore, it is advised that you check the belts regularly, perhaps even on a daily basis.
