A heavily camouflaged cargo three-wheeler was recently spotted undergoing road tests, sparking excitement about a potential new entry in the electric commercial vehicle space. It looked like a typical utility vehicle at first glance, but a closer look made us wonder: Could Bajaj be entering the electric cargo segment?
In this article, we’ll explore why this three-wheeler appears to be from Bajaj Auto and what its exterior and interior reveal about the vehicle.
The color of the 3 wheeler is similar to GoGo, which is a passenger electric 3 wheeler from Bajaj Auto. But the real giveaway is not the color, it’s the temporary red registration plate. MH 14, that’s Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune. For those who do not know, Pimpri-Chinchwad is the home of Bajaj Auto's corporate headquarters and one of its major manufacturing and R&D hubs.
Even with the camouflage, we can see some of the exterior and interior details of the vehicle. Photos show barrels strapped down in the back, which means they’re testing its weight handling capacity, suspension and power delivery in real life conditions.
Front Profile: The front is simple and purposeful. There are round headlamps and the indicators sit above it. You also get a decent-sized windshield with a single wiper.
Side Profile & Cabin: Taking a closer look at the cabin, it seems like it’s meant for driver only and no passenger on the side. The steering is a motorcycle-style handlebar, which is exactly what you expect for this class.
A prominent black battery pack sits behind the cabin, making two things clear. First, it's an electric vehicle, and second, it may come with battery swapping technology. No exhaust pipe in sight, so it's confirmed it’s an EV.
Rear Profile & Cargo Bay: The cargo section is a flatbed with drop-down sides. There’s a spare wheel tucked underneath. The tail lamps are rectangular in shape.
The market for electric cargo vehicles is growing fast, especially for last-mile delivery. If this Cargo vehicle is launched, it could end up being a serious competition to established models like the Mahindra E-Alfa Cargo and Piaggio Apé E-Xtra.
Road testing suggests that launch might not be far off, and it could shake up the segment a bit. While official details are still under wraps, this could mark Bajaj’s next step in expanding its electric commercial vehicle lineup.
