Electric three-wheelers are charging ahead. In July 2025, the segment notched its best-ever monthly retail sales with 69,145 units sold. This gives e-3Ws a commanding 62 percent share of India’s three-wheeler market, up from 58 percent a year ago.
In contrast, CNG 3-wheelers are struggling. Volumes dropped 13 percent year-on-year, with sales falling to 27,011 units. Their market share slid from 28 percent to just 24 percent. The shift is unmistakable. Electric is the future, and it's arriving faster than many expected.

There are several reasons electric 3-wheelers are winning:
The electric 3W industry sold 430,846 units in just seven months. That’s already 62 percent of the record 691,301 units sold in all of 2024.
With monthly average sales now exceeding 61,500 units, the sector needs to sell just over 260,000 units in the next five months to break last year’s record. All signs point toward this milestone being comfortably surpassed.
Setting a new standard in India's mobility transition, the segment might end the year with 700,000+ units, barring any disruptions.
Electric three-wheelers are no longer a new trend. They are the commercial vehicles which are considered as leaders in last mile and passenger mobility in India. Once the most popular option for operators on a budget, CNG 3Ws are gradually losing ground.
The industry is undergoing a noticeable shift as fuel prices increase and electric models become more reasonably priced. Not only is the electric auto rickshaw here to stay, but it is also shaping last-mile mobility in the future. And now with positive momentum, e-3W manufacturers are rushing to have their best year ever.
