The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has tied up with Cityflo to introduce a feeder bus service that will help increase last-mile connectivity for passengers making use of Metro Line 3. The new development comes after the recent expansion of the metro line and is a response to the growing necessity of seamless travel between metro stations and the prime residential, and commercial hubs.
The feeder bus service will connect seven important underground metro stations on Metro Line 3: Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Worli, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Vidyanagari, Siddhivinayak, Cuffe Parade and SEEPZ. The new feeder bus service will run at peak service hours from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with buses arriving every 10 minutes so passengers will not have to wait long for them to arrive on regular scheduled services. Passengers may book rides using either the Cityflo app or the Metro Connect 3 app, with prices starting from ₹29. If passengers are regular commuters, there is also a monthly pass for ₹499.
Metro Line 3 is 33.5 kilometers long, has 27 stations and is Mumbai's first completely underground metro line. Although the metro system has the infrastructure to be a successful public transportation system, it has struggled with passengers boarding trains due to last-mile connectivity. The launch of the feeder bus service is a strategic initiative aimed at filling the gap, making it easily accessible for commuters to reach metro stations with ease and increasing the overall effectiveness of the metro system.
MMRC plans to eventually extend the feeder bus service to other metro lines and stations. The extension of feeder busing aims to better support demand for the metro and bus together as a complement for minimising traffic congestion and reducing impact on the environment in Mumbai, as well. The agreement between MMRC and Cityflo promotes a progressive vision of working together to help modernize the existing public transport offerings in Mumbai so that it is another reliable travel option to private vehicles.
