Continental India has stopped making commercial vehicle (CV) tyres. The company has closed its Truck & Bus Radial (TBR) production at the Modipuram plant in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. This marks a full exit from the CV tyre segment.
The decision follows a business review. High costs and tight competition in the TBR market influenced the move. In contrast, Continental sees better growth in the Passenger Car and Light Truck (PLT) segment. “The shift in strategy is about securing future-ready operations in India. This realignment allows us to better serve the growing demand for high-quality passenger and light truck tyres,” the company said.
Continental will now focus on the PLT segment. The company will continue making PLT tyres at the same Modipuram site. This shift aligns with market trends and demand for quality passenger tyres.
Continental has planned support for affected employees. The company will offer job advice, help with internal transfers, and guide external placements. Voluntary exit packages will also be available to eligible workers.
Even after exiting the TBR space, Continental remains committed to India. The firm has opened a new IT center in Bengaluru to boost tech capabilities. Its sales and distribution office in Faridabad, Haryana, will stay active. This will help the company maintain its reach across the country.
By exiting CV tyre production, Continental is realigning with future needs. The company aims to serve India’s tyre market better, using focused investments in high-growth areas.
