Noida and Ghaziabad issued new transport directives in line with the Commission for Air Quality Management's clean-mobility framework. Under the revised rules, from January 1, 2026, commercial fleets operating in the two districts shall cease to add petrol or diesel-powered vehicles in certain categories. Instead, only CNG or electric vehicles can be brought into service.
The mandate includes all high-frequency operational sectors like ride-hailing platforms, logistics operators, on-demand delivery companies, and e-commerce mobility fleets. However, the rule applies only to new additions; the existing fleet of petrol or diesel vehicles may continue to operate up to their accepted life cycle.
The restricted categories include:
The transport departments in Noida and Ghaziabad have instructed all fleet operators to align future procurement with the clean-fuel requirement. State governments of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan in the NCR region are creating dedicated online portals where operators would have to submit fleet details for tracking compliance.
Officials call this transition a structural step toward reducing urban vehicular emissions. As the commercial vehicles run for longer hours and cover larger distances, the shift to CNG and electric powertrain is likely to bring measurable improvements in local air quality. Enforcement teams would keep close vigil, and any infraction may attract penalties under the existing transport laws.
The directive is part of the larger NCR strategy aimed at cleaner mobility, reduced dependence on fossil fuel, and accelerated electrification across the commercial transport segments.
