Jaipur Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a notice that makes it mandatory for more than 25,000 electric rickshaws to have a valid fitness certificate. The order encompasses all electric commercial vehicles such as E-rickshaws and EV autos running for commercial transportation in the city. Owners and operators will have to adhere to the requirement to continue lawful running and maintain the safety of passengers. A fitness certificate assures that a vehicle is in good mechanical health and safe to travel on public roads. In the past, fitness certificates were needed for buses and trucks. Today, Jaipur RTO insists that electric rickshaws used commercially should follow the same. The test inspects essential parts: battery health, brakes, lights, steering system, tires, and overall mechanical fitness. Vehicles that fail in any test need to be repaired before the RTO issues the certificate.
The population of electric rickshaws has increased exponentially in Jaipur. Most of them are used for carrying passengers and freight. Without periodic checks, mechanical breakdowns pose danger to passengers and road accidents.
The mandate addresses these issues:
Personal electric rickshaws for personal use are exempted. Any vehicle transporting people or goods for profit is considered to be commercial and is required to obey.
More than 25,000 EV rickshaws are in operation in Jaipur. The fitness certificate requirement supports systematic and safer commercial transport. Electric commercial vehicle workshops can expect additional business. Operators implementing this requirement set better standards, enhancing passenger confidence and operational effectiveness. Driving an electric rickshaw without a fitness certificate can attract fines, suspension of permits, or seizure of the vehicle. Insurance claims for uncertified vehicles can also be rejected, adding financial risk.
The Jaipur RTO's fitness certificate requirement ensures safety and compliance for the electric commercial transport industry. EV rickshaw and EV auto owners have to obtain fitness certificates so that passengers can be protected and penalties avoided. Regular inspection schedules and maintenance of vehicles ensure legal operation, trustworthy service, and a secure transport system in Jaipur.
