Indian commercial vehicle leader Ashok Leyland is gunning for an aggressive global milestone. The company aims to export 18,000 units in FY26, which may be scaled up to 25,000 units a year in two-three years as a midterm goal, it announced over the post-results media call, exuding confidence in sustained international growth.

The confidence thus stems from a strong export performance seen during the current financial year. At 4,784 international CV units, Ashok Leyland registered a remarkable 45% increase in Q2 FY26 compared to 3,310 units in Q2 FY25. The growth story rolled on during the first half of FY26, as overall export volumes topped 7,795 units, up 38% from 5,644 units in the corresponding period a year ago.

Exports have become one of the highest-performing verticals for the company, recording a growth of over 35 percent. According to Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, demand has expanded in most global markets for commercial vehicles. “The growth is not concentrated in a single region; our core markets are recording strong and consistent demand,” Agarwal said.

The surge has been led by bus exports, which have gained significantly in the Middle East-a region that remains a steadfast anchor for Ashok Leyland's international bus sales. The company further revealed a revival in demand from Sri Lanka that adds further momentum to its global expansion strategy.

With overseas orders on the rise, Ashok Leyland is working to enhance its export network, product portfolio, and after-sales support toward building a strong presence in promising markets. The company's medium-term road map reflects the gradual push toward volume growth, market diversification, and product innovation to sustain momentum for the company's exports. If current trends continue, Ashok Leyland's export aspiration of 25,000 units could also well turn from a target into a milestone, marking a new era of international growth for one of India's most respected automobile brands.
