Apollo Tyres has rolled out the Swasth Saarthi app, a new digital initiative aimed at supporting truck drivers with healthcare services while they are on long hauls. This launch is part of the company’s celebration of 25 years of its Healthcare Programme, a journey that began back in 2000 to cater to the medical and wellness needs of India’s trucking workforce. The timing feels apt, considering how much the landscape of mobile healthcare has changed since then.
The app is not just a directory of clinics. Drivers can consult doctors via video calls, check symptoms and locate the nearest Apollo Tyres Healthcare Centre. Apollo Tyres anticipates that around 10,000 drivers will make use of this digital support during the first phase. For drivers constantly on the move, having such resources on a smartphone could be a literal lifesaver.
Alongside the app, the company released a white paper titled Truckers — the Backbone of Our Supply Chain. The study looked closely at quality of life issues faced by truck drivers, highlighting that 74 percent actively seek medical help while on the road. Technology seems to be the preferred route, with the same proportion of drivers already using smartphones, which makes a case for digital solutions to finally catch up with the needs of this mobile workforce.
Rajeev Kumar Sinha, Chief Manufacturing Officer at Apollo Tyres, noted, "Our 'One Family' values reflect our dedication to tailored healthcare for the trucking community." The statement underscores a philosophy that healthcare cannot be confined to brick and mortar centres. The company’s approach now spans mobile units and digital platforms, which seems particularly fitting given the unpredictability of truckers schedules.
The launch event drew several key figures, including Rajesh Dahiya, Vice President of Commercial for Apollo Tyres India, SAARC, and Southeast Asia, along with Shri Kultaran Singh Atwal, Former President of the All India Motor Transport Congress. Their presence highlighted the importance of initiatives aimed at improving truckers lives, which often go unnoticed in the broader public discourse.
