• Engine and Performance

  The Volvo FM 400 gets the same humongous 12.8-litre six-cylinder D13A, DI Turbocharged Intercooled diesel engine with Engine Management System from Volvo FH 520 Puller. The engine is coupled to a 14-speed manual gearbox and is retuned to produce a maximum power output of 400 hp and a peak torque of 2500 Nm.

• Suspension and Brakes

  Underneath the Volvo FM 400, the rugged chassis includes a suspension setup of parabolic S-shaped leaf geometry suspension at the front and heavy-duty bogie suspension with conventional multi-leaf springs at the rear. With a heavy-duty axle at the front and a planetary hub reduction axle with four gears at the rear, the Volvo FM 400 has a braking setup including air brakes as standard at both front and rear.

• Exterior

  The Volvo FM 400 has its front profile divided into two parts – the front apron and the front bumper. While the upper half of the front profile is covered with a windscreen, the lower half of it has a wide-looking rectangular black grille with horizontal slats and the trademark slanted logo of the Volvo. Then comes the front bumper, which looks huge and gets partitioned air dams in trapezoidal forms. This bumper has vertically-laid trapezoidal headlamps. The lower part of the front bumper looks slim and has a blacked-out finish across the width of the bumper.

• Interior

  The Volvo FM 400 has a busy-looking cabin, which has a unique driver-centric design with a host of switches and controls facing the driver. A four-spoke steering wheel and a comprehensive instrument console make up for a combined driver’s cockpit. The curved centre console, facing towards the driver, accommodates an empty squared storage space, a panel of switches for AC and vertical AC vents. The co-driver side of the dashboard has the other half of the centre console facing towards it, which comes integrated with cup holders, storage spaces and AC vents.

• Features

  The Volvo FM 400 has a decently long list of equipment, which comprises dual airbags, ABS, manual air conditioning, tilt and telescopic adjustable power steering. The empty storage space in the curved centre console has the provision of accommodating the music system in it.
