The Tata Ace Gold CNG Plus is basically the CNG fuelled version of the trusted Ace Gold range that’s tuned a little differently with more deck space, slightly different load handling and suited for city and town deliveries where fuel cost matters. You see these in tight lanes, busy markets and frequent stop start routes where diesel isn’t the most economical anymore.
It runs a 2 cylinder, 694 cc water cooled, multipoint gas injection engine tuned for CNG use. This engine delivers 26 hp at around 4000 rpm and 51 Nm torque between about 2000 to 2500 rpm, which feels natural in everyday stop and go driving. Of course, it’s not built for speed, it just keeps moving with a load. The 5 speed manual gearbox is simple to use and predictable, exactly what drivers expect in a mini truck.
This is an Ace at heart, so the mechanicals are familiar, nothing the average small town mechanic hasn’t seen before. Suspension is basic with leaf springs, brakes are conventional and parts are available in most tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The CNG system doesn’t add mystery, just a bit of extra caution in servicing. In most cases, that’s nothing local workshops can’t handle quickly.
Running on CNG means the daily fuel bill feels lighter, especially on city miles with frequent stops. It also means lower emissions compared to diesel, helpful if you’re moving through pollution controlled areas. Fuel capacity is three 35 kg CNG cylinders (totalling 105 kg), which gives decent range before refilling. Top speed stays modest, roughly 70 km/h, but for urban and peri urban work that’s enough.
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) here is 1630 kg, and the payload capacity is 615 kg, enough for crates, parcels, FMCG goods and other common urban freight. The cargo deck is long and usable, which helps when stacking heavy or awkward loads. Inside, the cabin has practical two seats, decent visibility and basic controls.
Competitors
This trucking segment has a handful of CNG driven mini trucks from different brands. Some rivals have similar payload and engine specs, sometimes with small differences in features or mileage. What often sways buyers here is after sales support and fuel economics rather than raw power.

Shops, markets, small businesses like the simplicity and the predictable behaviour. For urban transport where stops are many and distances short, it’s a sensible choice that fits into a usual workflow without asking for special attention.
