India Energy Week 2026 began today in Goa and this is the fourth edition of what has become one of the most eagerly anticipated energy conferences. The conference began on January 27 and will continue until January 30. It is being held with the support of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and is a joint initiative of the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry and DMG events.
Ministers, industry leaders, technology suppliers and investors from all over the world have gathered at the venue and this is likely to set the tone for the next four days of discussions on energy, affordability and transition.
The inaugural session began with a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who stated that India is a major growth driver in the global energy sector. He invited foreign companies and investors to join India’s upstream sector and the developing gas infrastructure network in the country.
The exhibition halls have been filled with activity across all 11 of the exhibition's themed areas; there are over 700 exhibitors demonstrating technology solutions within each of these themes, ranging from Oil & Gas through renewable energy sources, as well as hydrogen and bioliquids, electric power, digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI); in addition, both national and international pavilions have been established on behalf of various entities to further represent and promote the wider evolving global nature of this exhibition.
Each of these exhibition zones displays exhibits with a particular orientation toward associated energy system interrelationships; rather than focusing solely on individual technology categories, the emphasis of these zones is broader - encompassing technical area of decarbon emerging tools through all energy system solutions, including energy use at scale and future development at suspected pilot stage technologies.
Running alongside the exhibition are the Strategic and Technical Conferences, where ministers, CEOs and experts are holding more in-depth discussions. The Strategic Conference is organized around four overarching themes: Collaboration, Resilience, Transition and Addition, which encompass all aspects of gas, from natural gas and LNG to new clean energy solutions.
Among the first sessions that have caught attention is one that is looking at the future role of natural gas and whether it should be considered merely as a transition fuel or as a new foundation for energy security. This is indicative of a new approach at this year’s conference: less emphasis on statements and more on trade-offs and timelines.
As the India Energy Week begins, the atmosphere seems to be more earthed than in the past. There is still some level of ambition, but it comes with questions of what can be accelerated, what requires policy intervention and where the interest to invest is greatest.
The next few days will see the actual pace being set through side events, closed-door sessions and networking. If the first day of the event is any indication, the India Energy Week 2026 is going to be less about announcing ambitions and more about being ready to take the next step.
