Tata Motors has signed an MoU with Green Energy Mobility Solutions. GEMS is the electric arm of Universal Bus Services. Tata will deliver 100 Magna EV coaches. These coaches will run on intercity routes.

The signing happened at Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0. The event took place in Chennai. Tata Motors displayed its latest commercial vehicles. These included the all-electric Magna EV and the LPO 1822.

GEMS is leading UBS’s move to electric mobility. It is working on deploying buses and building charging points. Universal Bus Services is known in South India for comfort and reliability. GEMS will now help UBS shift to clean travel.

T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Tamil Nadu, said:

“Tamil Nadu continues to lead the way in automotive and clean mobility innovation. Tata Motors’ partnership with Universal Bus Services to supply intercity electric buses is a significant step towards greener and safer public transportation. This initiative directly benefits the people of Tamil Nadu by offering cleaner travel options and affirms our commitment to building a future-ready, sustainable transport ecosystem.”

The fully electric bus has 44 seats, a range of up to 300 km in a single charge and comes with features like EBS and ESC.

This Tata-GEMS MoU is a big step for electric mobility. It supports India’s push for clean transport. It also expands Tata’s role in the intercity EV space.

Sunil Kumar Ravindran, Managing Partner at UBS and Director at GEMS, said:

"Our longstanding association with Tata Motors has been built on trust. This MoU marks a significant milestone as we transition to electric intercity travel with the Magna EV coaches. These buses promise quieter, more comfortable journeys and an enhanced passenger experience, perfectly suited for long-distance routes."

Anand S, Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicles at Tata Motors, said:

“The Magna EV, developed through extensive customer feedback and rigorous testing, is designed to redefine long-distance travel in India. We are confident it will set new standards in comfort, efficiency, and sustainability.”

Tata Motors leads in India’s electric bus segment. It offers the Starbus EV and Ultra EV for cities. It offers the Magna EV for longer routes. Tata has more than 3,600 electric buses running in 11 cities. These have driven 34 crore kilometers. The uptime is over 95 percent.

All these vehicles use Fleet Edge. This platform helps track location and check diagnostics. It also improves fleet planning.

This GEMS bus supply deal adds strength to the shift toward electric public transport. It shows Tata’s commitment to a cleaner and smarter future.
