Tata Motors on Monday announced the opening of over 25,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers in the country for use by customers of electric small commercial vehicles (SCV). Spread across as many as 150 cities in the country including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and more, these chargers are aimed at furthering the ability to deliver last-mile connectivity across major logistical hubs in India.

In a press statement issued on Monday, Tata Motors informed that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 13 Charging Point Operators (CPOs) to install and operate 25,000 additional public chargers over the course of the next 12 months. These and the existing public chargers will be integrated onto Fleet Edge, Tata Motors' connected vehicles' platform. The list of COPs includes  A Plus Charge, Ampvolts, chargeMOD, Charge Zone, Electric Fuel, Envo The Sustainer, EV Spot Charge, Kazam, Nikol EV, Sonik Mobility, Thunderplus Solutions, Volttic, and Zeon Electric.

Tata Motors claims it has also established more than 200 dedicated EV support centers in the country with the aim of providing service and technical assistance to its customers. At present, the company offers all-electric models like  Ace Pro EV, Ace EV and Ace EV 1000 which largely cater to urban and semi-urban logistical requirements.

Tata Motors' electric offerings

Tata Motors has a commanding say in the Indian EV space. While its electric cars like Tiago EV, Punch EV, Tigor EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV and the recently-launched Harrier EV combine to contribute to its passenger vehicles' sales figures, the company has also been betting big on its  electric small commercial vehicles' portfolio. But the supporting infrastructure is a crucial factor at play. "Crossing the 25,000 public charging station mark is a pivotal milestone in our commitment to advancing electric cargo mobility and its enabling ecosystem," says Pinaki Haldar, Vice President & Business Head – SCVPU, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles. "With over 10,000 Ace EVs already deployed and having collectively covered more than 6 crore km, we’re seeing growing confidence among customers and transporters in the benefits of using four-wheel electric commercial vehicles."
