Critically and globally acclaimed commercial vehicle manufacturer, MAN Truck & Bus announces that it plans to achieve net zero carbon emission by 2050 through the electrification of its fleet. It has integrated sustainability into its corporate strategy and is committed to producing zero tailpipe carbon emission-based vehicles for the future.

The strategy is in alignment with the guidelines provided by the Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative of which MAN has been a member for many years.

“Even in these difficult times, we stand by our corporate responsibility and regard sustainable action as a requirement for remaining competitive and meeting global challenges,” says the CEO of MAN’s executive board, Alexander Vlaskamp.

“We want to become a sustainable company. This goal must become embedded in our DNA, deep in the awareness of all our employees,” adds Stefan Klatt, Head of Corporate Responsibility at MAN, a member of the TRATON GROUP and one of Europe’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers.

The plan for decarbonisation of MAN’s fleet of buses and trucks plays a key role in its sustainability strategy. It is believed that 97.4 per cent of all MAN greenhouse gas emissions are produced by the use of the products. Nonetheless, the brand plans to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions within 2030 by 28 per cent lower than their 2019 recorded levels. The company has stated that it plans on achieving a greenhouse gas-neutral balance sheet by 2050 at the earliest.

Moreover, MAN Truck & Bus announces that its major focus is on achieving net zero carbon emission through the transformation of its fleet, especially the HGVs. In this regard, MAN CEO, Vlaskamp states, “By the end of the decade, at least half of the vehicles we sell in the EU will be electric. Since the market launch of the MAN Lion’s City E fully electric city bus in 2020, delivery contracts have already been signed for more than 1000 units. Vlaskamp also says that “We will also be starting production of electric HGVs in early 2024.”

The MAN Truck & Bus company has constructed the strategy with the help of its stakeholders such as its customers and suppliers as well as representatives of major companies, consultancies and NGOs. MAN’s sustainability board will be stating the future of the sustainability process and the achievement of net zero carbon emission through the electrification of the fleet, during the entirety of the process through its analysation.
