Eicher Trucks and Buses, a division of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) Limited, recently conducted health check-up camps for truck drivers at more than 20 transport hubs across six states. The initiative was carried out under the Eicher Highway Superheroes Program in collaboration with Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH).

The camps were held in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi NCR, Haryana, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. A huge participation of over 900 truck drivers was recorded. The initiative offered general health assessments, eye screenings, and road safety training.

According to the company, the initiative aims to support driver welfare and road safety by providing access to basic healthcare services. Drivers, often on the road for long durations, form a key component of the logistics and transportation network and are frequently exposed to occupational health risks.

Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director and CEO of VECV, said in a statement, “Truck and bus drivers form the backbone of our logistics system. At Eicher, we salute these highway heroes who tirelessly keep our economy running. We believe driver well-being is central to building a safe and sustainable transport ecosystem. Through the Eicher Highway Superheroes Program, we aim to provide Truck and Bus Drivers with access to essential health services, including eye care.”

Launched in 2016, the Eicher Highway Superheroes Program primarily focuses on providing truckers with easy and affordable eye care services. The company currently operates 13 mobile screening vans, in addition to a fixed center at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, Delhi. The program is supported by a network of 10 partner hospitals, over 2,500 transporters, and collaborations with the respective government transport departments in 11 states.

Since the time it was started, the program has reportedly reached more than 2.7 lakh truck drivers across India.

In addition to healthcare initiatives, Eicher has also established the Phoenix-Eicher Institute of Driver Training and Research in Latur, Maharashtra. The institute offers structured training programs to improve driving skills, road safety practices, and employability in the trucking industry.
