Eicher Trucks and Buses has made a big move into airports. On September 12, 2025, the company delivered six electric buses to IndiGo at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. This is Eicher's first step into airport transportation, which will make travel for passengers more eco friendly and easier.

Comfortable and Spacious Buses

The new buses called Eicher Skyline Pro-E 12m electric buses, will carry passengers between the airport terminal and aircraft. Each bus has 17 seats plus the driver’s seat and can hold up to 52 standing passengers.

The buses have smooth air suspension, power-assisted steering, and disc brakes to maintain the safety of the passenger. They are powered by lithium-iron phosphate batteries and use fast charge systems that are more than ideal for busy airport operations.

Helping IndiGo Go Green

Suresh Chettiar, Executive Vice President of Bus Division at VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), said:

"We are proud to work with IndiGo to make airport operations greener and more sustainable."

Kempegowda Airport handles 42 million passengers every year, so these buses will play an important role in reducing pollution while making travel easy for passengers.

More Than Buses

The partnership amounts to more than just buses. VECV has provided assistance in setting up charging stations for electric vehicles to help ensure that the buses can operate on a constant basis every day.

IndiGo: A Leader in Aviation in India.

IndiGo has a fleet of over 400 aircraft, which operates using about 2,200 flights every day to approximately 90 domestic and 40 international destinations. In 2025, IndiGo transported 118.73 million passengers, and was also awarded "Best Airline in India and South Asia" by Skytrax.

Eicher & VECV's electric plans

VECV is the joint venture with the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited, which manufactures Eicher-branded commercial vehicles and distributes Volvo trucks in India. VECV is expanding its fleet of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure to help lower pollution from transportation.

A greener future for airports

Electric buses are part of the Indian push for clean energy in aviation. Airports and airlines can create a substantial reduction in emissions in ground transportation for a more sustainable way of operating with a focus on safety and comfort for the travelling public.
