Strengthening India's Sustainable Mobility Vision

Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art registered vehicle scrapping facility (RVSF) in Kolkata, further strengthening its commitment to sustainable mobility and environmental responsibility. This marks the launch of the company's eighth RVSF across the country and the third in eastern India, after Guwahati and Bhubaneswar.

Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect

Named ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect,’ the facility is engineered to dismantle up to 21,000 end-of-life vehicles annually in a safe, eco-friendly, and compliant manner. Operated in partnership with Selladale Synergies India Pvt. Ltd, the centre is equipped to handle the scrapping of passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as two- and three-wheelers, irrespective of their brand.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by:

Official Remarks

Mr. Snehasis Chakraborty, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal, said, “The inauguration of Tata Motors’ Re.Wi.Re is a welcome step towards building a cleaner and more efficient future for our people. This initiative will also support the adoption of newer, safer energy-efficient vehicles and create circular economy opportunities within the transport sector. We appreciate Tata Motors, Selladale Synergies and all partners involved for bringing this initiative to our state.”

Mr. Firhad Hakim, Mayor of Kolkata, Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal, said, “The launch of Tata Motors’ RVSF reflects a meaningful step towards sustainable development, helping to reduce environmental burden in our state and improve overall well-being. This facility will create valuable employment opportunities for the state. We commend Tata Motors for taking this forward-thinking step for the people of our state.”

High-Tech and Eco-Friendly Operations

The Kolkata Re.Wi.Re facility is fully digitalised and paperless, designed with:

  • Cell-type dismantling for commercial vehicles, two- and three-wheelers
  • Line-type dismantling for passenger vehicles
  • Dedicated stations for safe removal of tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases

Each vehicle undergoes a thorough documentation and dismantling process in line with India’s vehicle scrappage policy, ensuring responsible recycling and environmental compliance.

Conclusion: A Nationwide Ecosystem for Vehicle Scrapping

With this latest addition, Tata Motors now operates RVSFs in: Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, Guwahati, and Kolkata. The company’s eight scrapping centres collectively boast a cumulative capacity of over 1.3 lakh vehicles annually, reinforcing its leadership in transforming India’s end-of-life vehicle ecosystem.
