New Delhi, June 5, 2025 – On the occasion of World Environment Day, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi spearheaded two pivotal initiatives that underscore India’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
In a significant stride towards zero-emission mobility, the Prime Minister flagged off 200 electric DEVi buses in Delhi, manufactured by PMI Electro Mobility. These state-of-the-art buses will ply across 30 designated green routes, furthering the nation's drive toward clean, intelligent public transportation systems.
In a parallel and deeply symbolic gesture, Shri Modi also planted a Banyan sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, inaugurating the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. This initiative not only celebrates ecological awareness but also encourages citizens to forge a deeper, more personal connection with the environment, one tree at a time.
Together, these actions form a compelling narrative: environmental stewardship is not merely policy, it is practice.
To amplify the vision behind ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, PMI Electro launched a community-driven initiative by distributing 10,000 eco-friendly seed cards embedded with basil and wildflower seeds. These biodegradable cards, meant to be planted directly into soil, are expected to germinate within two weeks, offering a tangible contribution to urban green cover.
Citizens across Delhi were urged to participate by planting the seeds, sharing photos, and tagging PMI’s official LinkedIn page to inspire a ripple effect of awareness and action. By making the act of planting interactive and shareable, PMI hopes to cultivate both plants and a culture of collective environmental ownership.
Dr. Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility, expressed pride and gratitude at being part of the Prime Minister’s sustainable vision:
“At PMI Electro Mobility, we are honoured to have our electric buses flagged off by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on this momentous day. His vision of a Green Viksit Bharat is not just aspirational, it’s a blueprint that guides us. These initiatives are testament to our nation’s deepening resolve to fight climate change through practical innovation and inclusive action. Our seed card campaign is a heartfelt tribute to this mission, inviting every Indian to plant hope and grow change.”
With this latest deployment, PMI Electro Mobility now operates more than 2,500 electric buses across 31 cities in India. These buses are projected to collectively eliminate over 250,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually, and more than 3 million metric tons over their operational lifespan.
As India moves steadily toward its sustainability goals, today’s developments signal more than just policy progress, they mark a cultural shift. A shift where green choices become everyday decisions. Where innovation meets intention. And where each citizen has a role in building a cleaner, more resilient future.
