Engine and Performance

The Tata Starbus rolls out of the factory floor with a 2956 cc, 4-cylinder, Tata 4SP CR engine that generates 99hp of power and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed transmission. The vehicle comes with Tata’s in-house developed 4SP CR Engine that enhances the fuel economy. The engine and tranny has the potential to allow the vehicle to even climb steep terrain efficiently with cargo and passengers on board. Such is the power of the Tata Starbus. The bus even has a light power-assisted steering setup that helps to easily manoeuvre the vehicle while driving through tight corners.

Suspension and Brakes

The Tata Starbus comes mounted with parabolic leaf springs in the front and parabolic leaf springs at the rear. The Parabolic leaf spring setup on the Starbus helps the vehicle to attain a decent ride quality but it is set on the stiffer side to absorb bumps and impact from potholes. This type of suspension setup does provide decent comfort levels for passengers but the last row passengers could feel the constant thud and vibrations much more than the front row seaters while the vehicle encounters shallow potholes. However, At higher speeds, the vehicle feels much more planted on the tarmac and the driver could feel well connected with the road thanks to the well-weighted steering system.

 As for the brakes, the Tata Starbus comes fitted with air brakes that function efficiently both in dry and wet weather conditions.

The suspension setup of the vehicle is quite decent and it provides good comfort. The stiff suspension gives the vehicle the ability to ride over bad road surfaces that is commonly witnessed in rural areas. Also, the brakes function efficiently even in wet conditions.

The Gross Vehicle Weight of the Tata Starbus is rated at 7000kg which is quite good for a vehicle of this size. The vehicle is available in 24+D, 2X2 seating configuration.
